MOHAMMED MONGUNO
ACIArb.He obtained LL.B (Hons.) in 1985 from the University of Maiduguri and was called to the Bar in 1986 upon completion of the Nigerian Law School programme at Lagos. He practiced Law in Jos, Lagos and Kaduna before joining Chaselaw Chambers Partnership in 2001. He joined the firm in October, 2017 as a Managing Partner.
He was appointed the Attorney-General of Borno State in 1999 and later served the Borno State Governor as Senior Special Assistant on Legal Matters. As Attorney General, he was involved in the drafting of so many legislations. He also in his capacity as the Attorney General of Borno State, served as a member of the Body of Benchers and the Council of Legal Education. In 2001, he was elected the chairman of
the Nigerian Bar Association, Maiduguri Branch. In 2003, the Chief Justice of Nigeria appointed him as a Notary public of Nigeria.
He attended the Tulane University, New Orleans, U.S.A for post-graduate studies in International Legislative Drafting in 2000. His legislative drafting skill was deployed when he drafted various laws in Borno State the Bye-Laws of Yobe State, 2014. He has also served in various constitution drafting committees.
An ardent Advocate, he has successfully handled many complex and high profile cases, election matters at Superior Courts. Worthy of mention is the fact that he represented Borno State in the famous ‘Resource Control’ matter before the Supreme Court.
Out of Court, he is a seasoned mediator and has mediated in the International Boundary dispute between Cameroun and Nigeria as a member of the United Nations Cameroun- Nigeria Mixed Commission (CNMC). While at the CNMC, he was the Leader of the Observer Team to Lake Chad/Land boundary to review the humanitarian needs of the affected population as a result of the decision of the International Court of Justice. An avid researcher, he utilized his experience at the CNMC in writing an Article on Fishing Rights in the Bakassi Peninsula.
